- I have owned a Packard Bell Computer for about 2 years now and I do
- not see what everyone's problem is with Packard Bell. The idea that
- Packard Bell's are not expandable is simply not true. When I first bought
- my computer it was a 486SX-33, 4 MB Ram, 210 MB hard drive, 2400 baud
- modem, and no MM capabilities. Now it's a 486DX4-100, 16 MB Ram, 1.2 GB
- hard drive, 540 MB hard drive, Quad speed CD-Rom, Wavetable Sound card,
- and 28.8 modem.
- I believe that Packard Bell is a wonderful starter computer. It is
- designed for the beginner. Being designed for a beginner means that it
- very rarely appeals to the advanced user. It is comparable to buying a
- Geo Metro and expecting to get a Camaro. It's just unreasonable. By the
- way, whenever you hear a person who is putting down Packard Bell, ask
- them if they've ever owned one. More often than not they will say no.
- They are just repeating what they have heard. I know this from my own
- experience. When I was looking for a computer, everyone said stay away
- from Packard Bell. I am very happy that I didn't take that advice.
- As for the Tech Support, it Sucks. Fortunately, I bought my computer
- from Sears and I also Bought a Maintenance Agreement. So whenever I have
- a problem, I call Sears and I'm taken care of immediately and with no
- hassles. I've even come out ahead (for example, when my Seagate 210 MB
- hard drive died. The Sears Technician replaced it with a 540 MB hard
- drive because 210 Mb HD weren't available anymore. At no cost to me.).
